Fast Electro-Optic Wavelength Selection and Frequency Modulation in Solid State Lasers

چکیده

II Electro-optic devices permit rapid wavelength selection and high-bandwidth frequency modulation in single-frequency solid state lasers. Laser dynamics limits both the speed ofwavelength selection and the linearity offrequency modulation. The maximum speed of laser mode selection is determined by the buildup ofoscillation from spontaneous emission. For frequency modulation, the minimum fractional deviation from chirp linearity is the ratio of the cavity round-trip time to the duration of the chirp. Nd:YAG and Ti:Alz0 3 lasers built at Lincoln Laboratory have attained these theoretical limits.

Wavelength Selectable Solid-State Raman lasers in the Visible and Ultraviolet Ranges

Solid-state Raman lasers are known as important sources at normally difficult to access wavelengths, and our recent studies have shown that they also form the basis of a class of wavelength selectable lasers. This paper summarizes our recent studies in wavelength selectable Raman lasers in the visible (532-650 nm) and ultraviolet (266-321 nm).

Fast Interrogation of Fiber Bragg Gratings with Electro-Optical Dual Optical Frequency Combs

Optical frequency combs (OFC) generated by electro-optic modulation of continuous-wave lasers provide broadband coherent sources with high power per line and independent control of line spacing and the number of lines. In addition to their application in spectroscopy, they offer flexible and optimized sources for the interrogation of other sensors based on wavelength change or wavelength filter...

Repetition rate stabilization of an optical frequency comb based on solid-state laser technology with an intra-cavity electro-optic modulator.

The repetition rate stabilization of an optical frequency comb based on diode-pumped solid-state laser technology is demonstrated using an intra-cavity electro-optic modulator. The large feedback bandwidth of such modulators allows disciplining the comb repetition rate on a cavity-stabilized continuous-wave laser with a locking bandwidth up to 700 kHz. This surpasses what can be achieved with a...

Direct measurement of the instantaneous linewidth of rapidly wavelength-swept lasers.

The instantaneous linewidth of rapidly wavelength-swept laser sources as used for optical coherence tomography (OCT) is of crucial interest for a deeper understanding of physical effects involved in their operation. Swept lasers for OCT, typically sweeping over ~15 THz in ~10 μs, have linewidths of several gigahertz. The high optical-frequency sweep speed makes it impossible to measure the inst...
